A look at 2023/24

In 2023, the Sea to Sky Potters’ Guild witnessed remarkable growth, evolving from a modest 6 members to a robust community of 50+. Our achievements included an in-person Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Potluck Social, the launch of an Instagram page, and the debut of our newsletter. The year also featured multiple special firing opportunities, highlighted by our inaugural RAKU Roadshow to Kitsilano and a new firing location at Loggers Sports in Squamish.

Noteworthy events further enriched our community, such as a Free Photography Workshop hosted by Kay Austen and the triumphant return of the beloved Empty Bowls fundraiser, generating over $10,000 for local food banks. The Guild also held a Holiday Pottery Sale and Mess o’ the Blues show at the Foyer Gallery in Squamish Public Library.

Looking ahead to 2024, we are thrilled to announce exciting “in the works” initiatives:

  • Sea to Sky Potters’ Guild Website with Members Listings: Enhancing our online presence to showcase the talents and contributions of our diverse membership.

  • Free Workshops, Opportunities, and Information for Members: Fostering continuous learning and growth within our community.

  • Collection of Discounts on Materials, Services, and Classes: Providing added benefits to our members.

  • Empty Bowls 2024: Building on the success of the previous year's event to further support our community and charitable causes.

  • 1st Annual Clay Fest 99 in August and September: A celebration of clay artistry, creativity, and collaboration.

  • Special Firings: Exciting opportunities to explore unique firing techniques.

  • Education Videos and In-Person Panels: Diverse learning experiences to cater to different preferences.

  • Beginner and Intermediate Potters Resources: Tailored support for members at various skill levels.

  • Professional Practices Information and Education: Offering valuable insights for those pursuing pottery as a profession.

  • Location-Specific Guild Leaders: Ensuring that each area within the Sea to Sky region receives dedicated attention and support.

With these upcoming initiatives, 2024 promises to be a year filled with learning, collaboration, and growth for our thriving pottery community.
